Chris Kanyon asked for his release from WCW Monday afternoon
during a meeting with Bill Busch. Kanyon is upset with the way
he's been used since returning from the "Ready to
Rumble" filming on which he served as technical advisor.
Kanyon is expected to be granted the release within the next
week. Kanyon was also upset over radio comments by Hulk Hogan
last week that younger wrestlers such as Billy Kidman couldn't
handle being main eventers. Hogan said Kidman couldn't headline a
flea market. One source told Keller that Kanyon got into an
argument with Hogan prior to last night's Nitro. Kanyon was upset
over plans to have him job to The Wall on Nitro Monday. On the
show, he didn't wrestle The Wall, but he did lose in just over
one minute to Dustin Rhodes. It is possible, however, that he was
originally scheduled to wrestle the Wall. It's known that Nitro
had to be extensively rewritten after Scott Hall didn't appear at
the show. Hall's return from Germany was delayed when airline
officials refused to let him board the plane due to the condition
he was in. Despite that fact, WCW went ahead with plans to
include him in the main event at this Sunday's Superbrawl.
When Kanyon met with Bill Busch to request his release, Busch
offered to give Kanyon a pay increase to $500,000 to cover the
remaining 14 months of his contract. Things have gotten so bad in
WCW that Kanyon turned down the offer and expects to receive his
release by the weekend.
Dave Scherer said his sources in the WWF have told him the
promotion will take Kanyon if he is released from WCW.
